Italy's mainstream media attach importance to Beijing Olympics

ROME -- Italy's mainstream media recently have released lots of reports on the Beijing Olympics and China as the Games is imminent.

Corriere Della Sera, or Evening Courier, the biggest daily in Italy, have issued special pages to cover preparations of the Games since mid-July.

Stories on the newspaper also said besides leaders from many countries, many well-known businessmen including Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, will attend the opening ceremony of the Games on August 8.

Meantime, Il Sole-24 Ore, or The Sun 24 Hours, the biggest Italian economic newspaper, has published special issues on Beijing's tourism, introducing the Games' venues, and changes brought by the Games to Beijing's infrastructure and its citizens' daily life.

The newspaper's website has issued a column to tell the Games' match arrangements and China's latest development in various aspects.

The Ansa News Agency, the biggest one in Italy, has also opened a column since July 8 to give information on the venues and Italian athletes' preparations for the Games.

Meanwhile, Italy's major monthly magazine L' Europeo published a special issue in July to introduce China's development in political, economic and social fields after 1949 when the People's Republic of China was founded.
