DUESSELDORF, Germany _ The German men's volleyball team qualified for the Olympics for the first time in 36 years after beating Spain 3-2 Sunday.
The Germans won 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 15-10 to finish atop the four-team qualifying tournament.
"We tortured ourselves to make the Olympics, " Germany player Andrae Bjoern said. "It wasn't luck, we went full speed and it worked."
Germany had rallied from 0-2 to win 3-2 against Cuba earlier this week. On Sunday, Cuba beat Chinese Taipei 3-0 to finish second at the event.
Three spots are still open for the Beijing Olympics and will be decided at two qualifying tournaments.
