LONDON - Russia qualified for the women's volleyball competition at the Beijing Olympics on Sunday when they beat Poland 3-2 in the final of a European qualifying tournament in Halle, Germany.

Russia, the world champions, raced to a two-set lead but Poland fought back. The Poles led early in the final set before Russia recovered to win 25-23 25-22 11-25 22-25 15-12.
Russia defeated Germany 3-0 in the semi-finals. Russia won silver medals at the last two Olympics and it will be the first time in 16 years that Germany has not been at the Games.
Poland beat Serbia 3-1 in the other semi-final of the eight-team tournament.
Russia is the seventh team to qualify for the Beijing Olympics, from Aug 8-24, joining China, Italy, Brazil, United States, Cuba and Venezuela in the 12-team tournament.
