On Monday the Municipal Ocean and Fishery Bureau of Qingdao placed a buoy in the open sea to detect and prevent algal blooms during the sailing events of the 2008 Olympic Games.

With a height of three meters, a diameter of 1.5 meters and a weight of 350 kilograms, the buoy is located near the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.

To prevent red tides and ensure the success of the sailing events, it will transmit continuous and real-time data on marine environment.
