In Lillehammer in 1994, Niemann had a modest Olympics, falling in the 3,000m and settling for a silver in the 5,000m and a bronze in the 1,500m. However, at the 1998 Nagano Games, she came back to win the 3,000 and earn silvers in the 1,500m and 5,000m, to bring her career medal total to eight.
