60 million yuan used for capital food safety in 2006

Statistics from Beijing Food Safety Office show most residents in the capital city have been aware of the government's actions on food safety monitoring and feel relax during the Spring Festival special purchase.

A series steps on city's food safety control system were underway on efforts like safety evaluation, food admittance, sanitary monitoring and safety supervision via spot check, emergency treatment, information feedback as well as the normal food safety administration.

In addition, policies on food admittance and non-eligible food withdrawal have become standardized as the regulations of Beijing Food Safety Monitoring.

In 2006, the government spent more than 60 million yuan (about US$ 7.74 million) on inspecting 10,000 samples, synthetically dealing with food-oriented diseases probably caused by chemical contamination, bio-pollution, propagation epidemics and food poisoning, and formulating a preliminary food safety accredit system of collection, evaluation, release as well as reward and punishment rules.
