Hein Verbruggen, Chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing Olympic Games paid a site-visit to the Beijing Olympic Games Security Command Center and had talks with Ma Zhenchuan, director of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and head of the center.

Verbruggen got a first-hand view of the sand-box showing security arrangement in the Olympic Green area where many Olympic venues are located. He inquired about the traffic volume and routes in the areas around the venues during the Olympic Games and watched a promotional film displaying the security system and operation mode during the Games.

On behalf of IOC, Verbruggen thanked the center and the bureau for their efforts to beef up security for the 29th Olympics while affirming their achievements.

He commended the "integral prevention and control" concept, as it can effectively cramp-down on crimes and strengthen prevention and control capabilities.

In addition, he said, Beijing police's wide-ranging international cooperation is positive to Games-time security. He also spoke highly of the police's decision to wear more plain clothes instead of police uniforms at competition venues as the practice can help create a more harmonious environment.

Wang Wei, executive vice-president and secretary-general of Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) accompanied Verbruggen on the visit.
