Doha volunteer managers pass on experience to Beijing

Two officials in charge of volunteer management for the 15th Doha Asian Games briefed their colleagues in Beijing on their experience Tuesday.

Khaled Helaly, manager of Doha 2006 Volunteers Program, gave a detailed introduction to many aspects of the program, including projection, objectives, strategies, project composition, recruitment, maintenance and stimulation.
In a country with a population of less than one million, Khaled organized and prepared a volunteer management team comprising nationals of 13 countries, whose experience in large-scale international sport events was nil before joining the team. Khaled's effort since 2004 resulted in the formation of a contingent of 16, 000 volunteers, including five percent of host country Qatar's citizens. Their devotion and smiles assured success of the Games' volunteer endeavor.

Reem Khader, in charge of communications and public relations for the volunteer program, told the audience how she managed to train volunteers to establish good relations with news media.
The guest speakers were invited by the Office of Beijing Olympic Games Volunteer Work Coordination Group, the Beijing Municipal Committee of China Communist Youth League, Volunteer Department of Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), and Beijing Volunteer Association.
People involved in the volunteer work for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games attended the briefing which is seen constructive. Similar activities are expected to be organized to enhance Beijing volunteers' know-how.
