Since the IOC decided last year to move the equestrian events of the 2008 Olympic Games to Hong Kong, the preparatory work for the events has progressed smoothly, according to a high-ranking organizer.

Following the signing of the arrangement on the events by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) on August 30, the latter has mapped up a well-knit organizational structure involving every government agency in the equestrian preparatory work, said Dr. Patrick C. P. HO, executive vice president of the Equestrian Committee and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Equestrian Events Company.
In an interview with the official website of BOCOG Wednesday, he said in October 2005, the Equestrian Committee of Beijing Olympics in Hong Kong was created to give directives and make policy decisions to prepare and stage the events. The Equestrian Events Company Limited was incorporated on February 15, 2006, which serves as an executive body to implement the organizational work.
At the moment, the committee has six coordination units covering such areas as community participation, cultural and educational activities, quarantine and medical services, security and transportation, while the company is engaging in close cooperation with experts' groups to deal with practical matters in detail.
To ensure successful equestrian events, a test event is planned for July 2007 when some 20 horses from 6 countries are expected to attend, as information indicated, Dr. Patrick Ho said.
It is a great honor for Hong Kong to co-host the Olympic Games, he said, adding "Hong Kong and mainland have the same mission and goal to stage a high-level Olympics with distinguishing features, and we will do our best."
