 Water polo: US makes waves

Updated: 2008-08-19 08:30 The US scored a stunning 8-7 victory over Germany yesterday to reach the semifinal of the men's water polo event for the first time in 16 years. The US topped Group B. Olympic powerhouse Hungary crushed Canada 12-3 to top Group A. The two group winners earned automatic semifinal places. Second and third-placed teams in each pool contest the quarter-finals. Montenegro edged out Australia for a quarterfinal spot from Group A, tying it 5-5. Serbia took the final spot in Group B despite losing 13-12 to Italy.
