Quantum communication goes to a new level

The Chinese Academy of Sciences will announce two breakthroughs in quantum communication on Wednesday. China is striving to set up the first-ever global quantum communication network by around 2030. This will be achieved by linking a satellite constellation consisting of dozens of quantum satellites and ground-based quantum communication networks. The country's first quantum satellite, called Micius, was launched last year.

Torch relay will ignite launch of national games

The torch relay for the 13th Chinese National Games will start on Tuesday after the flame was ignited by 2012 Olympic weightlifting champion Lyu Xiaojun on Sunday in Tianjin. China introduced the torch ceremony for the National Games in 1979. The quadrennial games, in Tianjin from Aug 27 to Sept 8, will see nearly 10,000 athletes competing.

Returnees setting up their businesses boost economy

An increasing number of people with overseas higher education are returning to China to start their own business, mostly in high-tech industries. This is largely due to favorable policies from both State and local government, and the businesses they create have become an important component in forging new economic drivers. No cash, no problem in era of mobile phone smart age

Tuesday is Cashless Day, an annual activity promoted by WeChat Pay, the e-payment arm of the country's internet giant Tencent. It aims to promote a green, fashionable and efficient lifestyle. Even though a completely cashless society is unlikely to happen, a new age of smart life has already arrived, according to WeChat. A recent survey showed 84 percent were "comfortable" going out with only mobile phones, no cash.
