BRICS telecom ministers to meet in Hangzhou
The third meeting of BRICS telecommunications ministers will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Thursday and Friday. It is the latest in a series of ministerial meetings being held in China ahead of September's BRICS summit in Xiamen, Fujian province. Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa are the other members of the bloc.
Ordos forum to address environmental issues
The sixth Kubuqi International Desert Forum, a major dialogue for global initiatives to combat desertification, will be held from Friday to Sunday in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The theme of the biennial event is "Greening the Belt and Road, Sharing the Desert Eco-economy".
Officials to update media on service-sector reform
On Thursday, the State Council Information Office will announce the status of its plans to open up Beijing's service sector. The capital aims to modernize and upgrade its services in fields including finance and tourism. Wang Shouwen, vice-minister of commerce, and Cheng Hong, deputy mayor of Beijing, will attend a media briefing.
New investment guideline to spell out tax initiatives
Starting Friday, China will implement a revised foreign investment guideline, which will feature tax initiatives as well as a list of industries the government wants to encourage foreign companies to invest in. The guideline will reduce the number of sectors that are completely off-limits for foreign investment from 36 to 28.
