Truck transporting live pigs overturns

A truck carrying live pigs overturned on an expressway in Hangzhou on July 14. It took police officers and the driver more than two hours to capture all of the pigs that escaped from the vehicle, each weighing more than 150 kilograms. Police officers said they suspected the truck had been overloaded.

Woman conned out of 5.3 million yuan

A business owner was defrauded out of 5.3 million yuan ($784,240) after receiving a fake arrest warrant in Chengdu this month. Zhou Li, 44, received a fake warrant that included a photocopy of her identity card and an apparent official seal of the Shanghai High People's Procuratorate. Zhou was then told over the phone to transfer the money into a designated bank account, or face being sentenced to a jail term of 15 to 20 years, due to suspected money laundering. Police have launched an investigation.

Driver punished for not cooperating

A man, surnamed Lin, who was caught on camera dancing in the middle of a boulevard before kicking a police officer, was placed in detention for five days as punishment in Haikou on July 15. Lin, 49, began his dance after police officers stopped him on his motorbike and tried to fine him for a traffic violation. The video has been widely shared online.

Voyeur busted by passengers on bus

A man in Dalian who took photos of women's breasts without their permission was detained on July 15. The man in his 20s used his mobile phone to secretly take the photos after boarding the No 531 bus in Gaoxin district. But he was caught while scrolling through the photos and forced by passengers to delete the images and get off the bus.

Lingerie fails to boost buyer's assets

A woman in Wuhan, surnamed Li, spent more than 160,000 yuan ($23,670) on purchasing 40 sets of underwear from a lingerie store that claimed to make women's breasts appear larger and waists appear slimmer. Li, 35, was planning to sell the underwear sets for 8,000 yuan each, but has failed to do so. After testing the underwear for two weeks, she said it made little difference to her appearance. Her husband has sought police help after the lingerie store refused to give Li a refund.

New mother denied use of AC dies

A woman who had recently given birth died of heatstroke after her family refused to switch on air-conditioning units in Zibo on July 9. The woman's body temperature reached 40 C and she was taken to hospital for emergency treatment, but doctors were unable to save her. Her family members told doctors that they refused to use the air-conditioning units because the woman had just delivered a child. According to traditional customs, women must be confined to their bed to recuperate for a month after giving birth and they cannot have contact with water or eat "cold" food.

Suicide attempt ends in injuries

A woman in Nanchuan district who attempted to commit suicide by jumping into a river on July 15 was seriously injured due to the low water level. The woman was sent to hospital for treatment by firefighters who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Doctors said the woman had fractured her hip bone and had many other injuries. Her family said she left home after having a drunken fight with her husband.
