Cops 'recruit' Tomic

Police in Australia are using a photo of a downcast Bernard Tomic as a recruitment tool after the Aussie star complained he was bored of tennis when he slumped to a first-round loss at Wimbledon.

On Wednesday, Western Australia Police pasted a photo of Tomic on its Twitter feed reading: "Bored of your job? WA Police is anything but boring."

Bravo to a Beckham

Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov said he was impressed by the tennis skills of Romeo Beckham, the son of former England soccer star David, when he hit with him at the Queen's Club tournament in London last month.

"He's a very talented kid," said Dimitrov, a former Wimbledon semifinalist.

"I think he hasn't played tennis for that long, but he sure showed a lot of potential.

"I just wanted to do something nice for him. He came to quite a few of my matches. I was glad also to spend time with (Romeo's mother) Victoria and get to know the family from close."

Piece of cake for Konta

Johanna Konta forgets about the pressures of tennis by baking cakes and testing their flavor on her coaching team.

"It was the second time I have ever made muffins in my life," said the Australia-born Brit. "I was really, really looking forward to trying it out on my guinea pigs.

"It came back positive, so that has given me that much more confidence to search for and make some more creations. Maybe not just vanilla, maybe chocolate chip or banana muffins."

More food for thought

Czech qualifier Lukas Rosol, who stunned Rafael Nadal in 2012, remembered his table manners on Court 12 against Gilles Muller when he used a spoon to eat a snack during the changeovers. He needed all the energy he could get as his match, which he lost, stretched to five sets.

Historic Heather

Heather Watson, who beat Anastasija Sevastova, is the first British women's wild card to reach the third round at Wimbledon since Sam Smith in 1998.
