Ryu shoots to top of rankings

South Korean Ryu So-yeon seized the world No 1 female ranking on Sunday as she closed with a two-under 69 at the Northwest Arkansas Championship for her 15th career international title.

Ryu, who won her second major championship in April at the ANA Inspiration, finished the 54-hole LPGA Tour event at 18-under 195 for a two-shot triumph over compatriot Amy Yang and Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn.

"Dreams come true. I always dreamed about it. I cannot believe it," said Ryu, who replaces Thai Ariya Jutanugarn at the top of the rankings. "I didn't expect two good things coming together."

Dodgers roll on against Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to 10 games, scoring five runs on four wild pitches to go along with two more homers from rookie sensation Cody Bellinger in rallying past the Colorado Rockies 12-6 on Sunday.

Bellinger now has 24 homers, helping the Dodgers extend their longest winning streak since notching 10 straight victories in August 2013. Colorado lost its season-worst fifth in a row.

Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino (1-2) threw four wild pitches in the late innings, all of them scoring at least one run.

Rossi revs to Dutch triumph

Italian MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi won a gripping Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday to move up to third in the championship behind new leader Andrea Dovizioso.

The 38-year-old Rossi claimed his first victory in a year and his 10th at Assen after a thrilling duel with compatriot Danilo Petrucci.

Rossi nabbed the win by barely the length of his Yamaha bike from Petrucci, with defending champion Marc Marquez finishing third.

Qinghai's Ringyal a peak performer

Jannya Ringyal, from Qinghai province, clocked 3:09.42 to win the men's marathon at the Lichuan stop of the China Mountain Marathon Series in Hubei province on Sunday.

Guizhou's Luo Tao finished second, while Beijinger Yun Yanqiao, this year's Hong Kong 100km winner, was third.

The women's winner was Guizhou's Yao Miao, in 3:55.14, while Gansu's Wang Wanfang and Inner Mongolia's Mei Ying claimed second and third, respectively.

The event, which also featured a 6.6km fun run, attracted about 3,000 participants, including China's 1992 Olympic swimming gold medalist Qian Hong.

Beijing witness to the fitness

As part of China's push to boost the population's fitness, the nationwide Sports for Balanced Diet and Health program kicked off at Beijing's Fangzhuang Sports Park over the weekend.

Beijing's 25,000 social-sports instructors will be trained and educated on the program, enabling them to better promote fitness and health consciousness.

The initiative will also encourage senior citizens to maintain exercise and a balanced diet.
