China to showcase clean-energy projects at Expo 2017
Expo 2017 will open in the Kazakh capital Astana on Saturday. With "Future Energy" as its theme, the three-month international exposition aims to create a global debate on safe and sustainable access to energy for all. China's pavilion will showcase clean-energy projects as well as a simulator for a high-speed train. President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony. More than 100 countries and 20 international organizations will participate.
Statistics bureau to release economic data for May
The National Bureau of Statistics will release the economic data for May on Friday, including those related to the consumer price index and the producer price index. The CPI is the main gauge of inflation, while the PPI indicates changes in wholesale prices, and a decline can reflect deflation in the industrial sector. The CPI rose 1.2 percent year-on-year in April, as higher prices for nonfood commodities outweighed an ongoing decline in food prices.
Commission plans briefing on entrepreneurship bases
The National Development and Reform Commission will hold a media briefing in Beijing on Thursday on the country's demonstration bases for entrepreneurship and innovation. Last year, the State Council, China's Cabinet, approved the establishment of 28 such bases.
Action flick The Mummy premieres in China on Friday
The Mummy is set to hit Chinese theaters on Friday, the same day it is released in North America. In the film, a reboot of The Mummy franchise, an ancient princess is awakened from her tomb beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia. The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Marwan Kenzari and Russell Crowe.
