New missiles and weapons tested
China's military has conducted live-fire drills and weapons tests in the Bohai Sea, the Ministry of Defense said late on Tuesday. In a brief statement, the ministry said the tests of new missiles and weapons were carried out by the People's Liberation Army's Rocket Force "in recent days" and were designed to raise operational capabilities to effectively deal with national security threats. No further details were provided.
Emissions: 66% were in violation
Of the 5,594 companies examined in the latest round of air pollution inspections, 66 percent failed to meet environmental standards, China's environmental authority announced on Tuesday. The findings came after a month of inspections in 28 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, which uncovered problems like excessive emissions and inadequate pollution control equipment.

Training ship sets off to South Africa
China's newest training vessel Yupeng set off on its maiden voyage on Tuesday from Dalian to South Africa. The 340-million-yuan ($49 million), 199.8-meter vessel is China's most advanced cruise training ship. It has a carrying capacity of 30,000 metric tons and can be used for training, scientific research and shipping.

16 held after drug factory bust
Sixteen suspects were detained in connection with drug manufacturing in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and neighboring Guangdong province, police said on Tuesday. Working from a tip, police detained eight suspects they said had set up manufacturing at a tree farm in Guangxi's Laibin city. They seized about 250 kilograms of ketamine, 1,078 kilograms of semifinished drugs, equipment and four vehicles. Two other suspects were detained in Laibin the same day, and drug-related money totaling 1.4 million yuan ($202,700) was seized. Guangdong's Huizhou police then detained another six suspect members of the gang in Guangdong.
