New adaptation
Taiwan stars Alec Su and Ruby Lin team up again in the thriller, The Devotion of Suspect X, based on Japanese author Keigo Higashino's award-wining novel of the same title. In the film, which is Su's second directorial feature, Lin stars as a divorced mother who inadvertently kills her ex-husband. Su says the Chinese version of The Devotion of Suspect X is different from the earlier Japanese and South Korean versions, as required by Higashino, one of the most famous novelists in Japan. The movie, which is being screened on the Chinese mainland, will also be released in Australia, New Zealand, North America, Singapore and the United Kingdom, says the Chinese producer Enlight Media.

Mass Effect
Time for a spring break! Why not book a trip to the Andromeda Galaxy, where fun and adventure await you on planets where no human has set foot? Two problems: First, it takes 600 years to get there. Second, your travel agent may have exaggerated a bit, and those faraway worlds aren't quite as human-friendly as promised. Mass Effect: Andromeda (Electronic Arts, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) invites you to take part in this adventure but, like the journey it describes, it delivers mixed results. Occasionally it rewards you with the gosh-wow sense of wonder that every science fiction fan craves, but you have to work your way through some hoary genre cliches to get there.

Gorillaz' hit
Virtual rockers Gorillaz recently announced a new album and previewed it with a track that merges rock, hip-hop and reggae alongside a trippy sci-fi video. The experimental side project of Damon Albarn of Blur fame - which consists of a fictional band lineup represented by cartoons - says that Humanz, the group's first album since 2011, will come out on April 28. Humanz will have guest stars on nearly every track including alternative hip-hop pioneers De La Soul and soul great Mavis Staples.
