Cold front to hit northern regions

A cold front will hit northern China from Sunday evening to Tuesday, bringing strong gales and low temperatures, according to the National Meteorological Center, which issued a "blue" alert for the cold front. The Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and most of North China will see temperature drops of up to 12 C, as well as high winds, the center said.

Altered web linkleads to porn

People's Education Press has announced that a link in a Chinese textbook it published was altered to lead to pornographic material, the Beijing-based Legal Evening News reported on Sunday. According to a report by the newspaper on Saturday, a woman found that her 15-year-old daughter had entered a pornographic website after searching the link for ancient Chinese poetry.

China Eastern to offer Wi-Fi services

China Eastern Airlines will officially offer Wi-Fi services on a flight between Wuhan and Sydney, Australia, starting on Monday, company sources said on Sunday. It will be the airline's first flight from Wuhan to offer its passengers internet access, said Mei Xiaoling of the company's Wuhan subsidiary, adding that cellphones must remain switched off during the flight. Passengers should apply for the service in advance, as it is limited to 100 passengers per flight, the company said.

Cargo boat fires kill four people

Four people were confirmed dead after three cargo boats caught fire on the Yangtze River late on Friday night, authorities said on Saturday. Flames engulfed three boats near Jiangxinzhou Islet off Nanjing at about 11:20 pm, sources in the city's fire prevention bureau said. The flames were extinguished by 1:30 am on Saturday.
