In case you can’t tell from looking at the lineup, this Saturday at Mao Livehouse is punk night; or, more specifically, the eighth annual Punk in Love festival. I’m not always in the mood for punk, it has to be said, but with such an amazing lineup I’m sure to get my money’s worth. Ever since getting a taste of SUBS at Dos Kolegas, I have a feeling I might like them, and the rest of the bands are names I have come to recognize as the cream of the crop for punk sounds. Although Skarving is most definitely a ska band and, last I checked, Return of the Truth is a metal group, I'm sure they’ll be pulling out their punk roots for this show. There should be plenty of punk to last you through the night.

My pick: Punk in Love, Saturday Aug 6 @ Mao Livehouse, first band 6 pm.

Lineup: Brain Failure, SUBS, Shochu Legion, Discord, Hell City, Misandao, Skarving, Unregenerate Blood, The Unsafe, Return of the Truth, The Last Choice

Elsewhere this week, visiting groups abound. Tiger Translate’s battle of the bands shows this week are Perdel at Mako Livehouse on Friday (8:30 pm, 60-70 yuan) and Reflector at Tango Third Floor on Sun (8:30 pm, 60-70 yuan). Mongolian artists A Jinai also play Mao Livehouse on Sunday, while next Tuesday sees Neon Trees and Pet Conspiracy kick off Let’s Rock Beijing at Tango Third Floor.
