Obviously this is correct, but sadly it's in the day-to-day cultural scene that Beijing fails. Take the famous Silk Market. Many expats have to cross the wide road outside the market, but even when the light is green for pedestrians they are threatened by speeding taxis and other cars. Shall I go on about the attitude of staff at the market? There are many other examples of Chinese selfishness that spoil Beijing as a global metropolis.

There are men out there who prefer the more casual look over the Barbie-doll look, so my advice as a man to the girls is: be yourself (and hope the man is also being himself, which will save you and him time).

These people work very hard and very long, yet they get little thanks and little recognition for the service they provide. Without these people, homes would be filthy and the quality of life poorer. Well done to domestic workers and a big thank you for all you do. Pity more people aren't as thankful.
