Newcomers' network

Every fourth Thursday of the month the International Newcomers' Network gathers at venues across the city to sip coffee and share tips and tricks learned while living in Beijing.

It's a good chance for those who have just arrived to mix with some of the city's veteran foreign residents.

Mongolian band

Bringing the sounds of the steppe to Beijing, Dolan Band will offer the unique sounds of Mongolian throat singing and horse-head fiddle tunes as they share one of the north's best-known musical styles.

Known as much for their light-hearted songs about the natural splendor of Mongolia as for their social commentary on the industrialization and modernization of the country, Dolan Band is a traditional Mongolian band in the truest sense.

Life documentaries

Highlighting the work of documentary-maker Du Haibin, two award-winning documentaries, Umbrella and 1428 will be shown as a double feature at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art.

With Umbrella exploring the lives of workers, farmers, businessmen and migrant workers, and 1428 following the lives of survivors of the Wenchuan earthquake, the films offer a window into the lives of ordinary Chinese citizens.
