Buddha's birthday

Beijing Longquan Monastery is to hold a multilingual Dharma assembly for Buddha's birthday on May 10.

Venues are prepared for activities in different languages, including reciting Mahayanist sutras such as the Practice and Vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, as well as various cultural experiences.

Language lovers are welcome to attend.

Beijing Debate Society

Meeting every Wednesday at 8 pm to debate (in British parliamentary style) a wide variety of topics, the Beijing Debate Society provides an opportunity for participants to develop a more convincing and clearer speaking manner.

The BDS is a nonprofit, non-religious, non-political and non-discriminatory society, open to all who wish to improve their argument-building skills, not their ability to argue.

Flea market

The parents' association of the German Embassy School is hosting a flea market from 2 pm to 5 pm, for toys, books and clothes for children. You are welcome to come, see, buy and enjoy yourself with homemade German cake and coffee.

German career day

German Chamber of Commerce will hold a workshop on May 13 from 2-5 pm and a job fair on May 14 at the Swissotel. This job fair will be a platform for young talents and top German companies to communicate in person, and for supporting the recruitment activities of German companies in China.

To help candidates prepare for the job fair, a half-day workshop (application training course) will open on May 13, hosted by a HR expert at Landmark Tower 2, North Dongsanhuan Road 8, Chaoyang district.

If you want to join the workshop, please register before May 13 and pay a 30 yuan entrance fee. 50 yuan entrance fee at reception at the job fair on May 14.

Roundabout charity book fair

It is said to offer one of the largest selection of books ever. There is a huge range of used books for sale - something for everyone in the family.

Paperbacks 10 yuan, hardbacks 20 yuan, children's books from 1 yuan. A few books in "as new" condition and coffee table books are a little dearer.

All proceeds will be used to help children in need. You may also drop off any donations (clothes, bric-a-brac and books) for Roundabout at the book fair.May 14, 10 am to 4 pm, the International School of Beijing (ISB).
