Getting a new visa with lost passport

I lost my passport recently in Beijing and my visa is almost expired. How can I apply to renew them?

You first need to report the loss of the passport before applying for a new one and then apply for a visa or a residency permit. Go to the exit and entry administration office of the Beijing Public Security Bureau to report the loss. There you will get a "loss certificate", which you can use to get a new passport from your country's embassy. If your residency permit is in the lost passport, you need to do some more work.

Go to the administration to declare the invalidity of the residency permit, and within 30 days you need to apply for a new permit or a visa with the new passport and the loss certificate. When you fill in the relevant application forms, you need to have a recently taken photograph no smaller than 5 centimeters. It should be a full-face shot, you should be bareheaded and the background must be light blue or white.

The exit and entry administration is at No 2 Andingmen Dongdajie beside Xiaojie Bridge in Dongcheng district. It is close to the Lama Temple subway station and is open 8:30 am-4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Its phone number is 8402-0101.

I have been traveling in China for two months and have just arrived in the capital. My visa is about to expire. How can I get an extention?

Again, you need to apply to the city's exit and entry administration in person with a valid passport and visa, as well as a temporary residence registration certificate. You need to present a "financial certificate", which proves that you can afford a daily cost of $100 or equal amount in yuan. You will also need a recent photo, same as the details stipulated above.

What should I do to register a newborn baby?

If the parents are both expatriates, the parents or the agents need to register the child at the exit and entry administration within one month of the birth. The birth certificate and both parents' passports are needed. If the baby has already got a passport, the parents can apply for a visa for the baby using that, along with a birth certificate and residency registration certificate.
