On Too many worries to count

'Mother' Beijing embraces all comers

As the capital of China, Beijing acts just like the mother in a family. It's true that more migrant workers are coming to Beijing to find a job or to seek a place to live. It makes me nervous when I see crowds of people rushing into the subway and onto buses. Sometimes, in fact, I really don't like to be surrounded by all the migrants. Beijing is just like every mother. We must accept every child who'd like to join an already big family. It just proves how great our mother is.

On Immigration frustration

Green card, red citizen

I believe a US green card does not make you any less than a real Chinese citizen. Instead, it provides lots of conveniences in terms of working, living and traveling abroad.

Usually, the baby will follow father's nationality in China. But you can choose which nationality to become.

Passport to high taxes

Your taxes are lower if you hold a foreign passport. If your husband is a citizen of a foreign country, likewise, he can get a residence permit with your passport instead of relying on the tourist visa for visiting relatives using your Chinese passport.

China is an interesting place. It actually encourages its citizens to become citizens of foreign countries!

On The death of tea is brewing

Teahouse pours it on

There are some good teahouses in Beijing where tea culture is promoted and good-sourced tea can be tasted.

I went to one such great place and very much enjoyed the tea and all the settings and tools inside.

It is called Beijing RiYueGuang Tea House, located inside the compound just opposite the Holiday Inn Lido hotel. RiYueGuang means Sun, Moon and Light. You can find treasures in terms of teas and many items related to tea culture there.

On House churches thrive in Beijing

House church brethren

I feel like the people in the house churches are my brothers and sisters, even though we live thousands of miles apart and come from completely different backgrounds. Thank you very much for publishing this story.

It is very encouraging to read how the next generation of Chinese can find spiritual fulfillment apart from material success.

On Missing my personal privacy

Cherish your family time

Just take it in your stride. Spring Festival only lasts a few days with the family. And it is only once a year. When you reach your relatives' age, think back to these joyful moments before you start asking similar questions about your younger relatives.

On Why foreigners date Chinese women?

Clash of cultures could nip true love

The story is true to a certain degree. However, the influence of cultural backgrounds and the way they were brought up play a role. Family traditions of different countries vary and might cause problems unless the partners are able to compromise and understand each other.
