In the article the writer has showed strong attachment to Shanghai while voicing dislike for Beijing. I don't think such an article with strong personal prejudices should be published in a national publication like China Daily. The author has obviously overlooked many of Beijing's advantages while lauding those of Shanghai. For me, Beijing is a real cosmopolitan city, where people of different backgrounds speaking different languages celebrate their diversity every day. The opinion expressed in the paper cannot really represent what most of the people working in Beijing tend to agree. I worked in Beijing, but have just lost the job since my company moved its office from Beijing to Shanghai. I know how difficult it is for me to find a new one, as the global economic crisis is not over yet. So I would also want to complain, feeling hopeless about the future. I think many people may share the same feeling when they are struggling ahead in an increasingly competitive world. Neither do I agree with the comment that Beijingers do not have any genuine belief in change when they talk about politics. The fact is that as an ordinary Chinese, we do not have much say in politics other than expressing our views and comments, which is a common phenomenon across the country. I am a Bangladeshi born Swedish citizen and presently visiting China. I share the writer's experience when I visited my country of origin, Bangladesh. But there is a big difference. I found many things here highly admirable. Bus, metro, taxi etc are highly efficient and they manage very well. I found hospitals highly efficient. I felt sick and went to a nearby hospital. I was treated very well and within 4 hours I got full medical treatment which in my adoptive country Sweden would take me 3-4 days minimum. People are nice and kind. But again, people get used to things and do not like to change lifestyle so easily. In my 22 days' trip I visited Shanghai and nearby places of that huge city, Xi'an and Beijing, and I enjoyed every moment of it. Tayeb Husain (The story was published on Oct 30, M2.
