Simao district is improving educational quality and was honored by the Yunnan Provincial Government in 2014, the Pu’er Daily reported.
The district raised funds for education from 253 million yuan to 316 million yuan ($50 million) in 2014. The education budget accounted for 13.94% of the public finance.
From 2010 to 2014, the budget increased from 1249.06 yuan per student to 1363.28 yuan. The budget for junior high school students increased from 1955.9 yuan to 3617.54 yuan per person.
The district also allocated money to improve campus buildings and facilities. The district now has 487 multimedia classrooms, 3548 computers, and 933,000 books.
Since 2014, Simao set aside 10 million yuan for teachers’s bonuses. Teachers in remote rural areas get an additional 500 yuan per month. By the end of 2014, the average salary for teachers in Simao totaled 48,766 yuan, 14280 yuan more than 2010
The district also invested 64.5 million yuan to improve teachers’ living condition.
To improve the talent pool of for the district, Simao allocated money to train local teachers while recruiting teachers from the entire province. The district allocated one million yuan per year to train local teachers since 2011
The district has two provincial level presidents, seven provincial teachers, two municipal-level teachers and six provincial-level teachers. It also has four provincial-level teachers’ studios and two municipal-level studios.
The district hopes to improve its educational quality and cultivate competitive students.
