Li Shi, a farmer in Pu’er, recently won a national award for promoting agricultural skills, the Pu’er Daily reported.
The national award is granted to honor those who promote agriculture skills and help fellow villagers increase income via advanced technology.
Li Shi is experienced with feeding Donggua pigs, a famous species in Yunnan. He shared his experience with his fellow villagers. Gradually, feeding Donggua pigs has become an emerging industry for locals.
So far, a total of 116 households are in this industry and their pigs are sold near and far, bringing every family approximately 300,000 yuan ($47,370) per year.
This year, a total of 100 agricultural technicians have won 10,000 yuan awards and 100 farmers have won 30,000 yuan awards.
The awards were set up in 1997 and have been granted for 15 years. A total of 1133 technicians and 816 farmers have benefited. A total of 40 million yuan has been awarded to encourage promotion of advanced agricultural skills.
