Greenhouse Coffee (Gu Linfang in Chinese) is a well-known coffee shop and coffee laboratory based in Pu'er.
It was was established in Xining, the capital of Qinghai province, in 2008. The founders of Greenhouse are professionals from the US and Mexico.
The group from Greenhouse has sought cooperation with coffee production areas in and around coffee production areas since its establishment. After several years of investigation, Greenhouse decided to set its base in Pu'er, China’s biggest coffee production area.
According to a senior from Greenhouse, specialty coffee will influence the coffee supply chain and help local coffee farmers to improve their livelihood.
In July, Greenhouse organized a coffee tasting session in Pu'er. Students from countries and regions including the US, India, Malaysia and Hong Kong gathered in Pu'er for the session.
The training session focused on the theoretical aspects of brewing coffee, such as the coffee tasting system. The system was developed to implement a coffee tasting standard acceptable to coffee growers, coffee makers and coffee tasters. Greenhouse aims to share quality Pu'er coffee with the world. The company's founder believes that Greenhouse has the potential to put Pu'er on the global map.
The coffee production area in Pu'er reached 50,466 hectares by 2014, producing 39,000 tons of coffee worth 1.2 billion yuan ($194 million).
The quality of coffee in the area and the city's large production area has helped Pu’er develop itself into a major coffee trading hub. To further the trade of coffee, Pu'er has helped to promote the development of the coffee industry in surrounding countries such as Myanmar and Laos.
