Farmers in Pu'er in southwest China's Yunnan province recently welcomed the watermelon harvest season.
According to Wu Zhengyou, a farmer from Xiansheng village in Pu'er, the village has taken advantage of its fertile land, convenient transportation and abundant water. "This year, I planted the Qilin watermelon for first time and achieved great success," said Wu. The Qilin is a new variety of watermelon that has been developed after scientific research. Qilin watermelons require strict soil and sunlight conditions when planted.
According to the statistics, Xiansheng village has planted 21.33 hectares of watermelon and expects to receive around 4 million yuan ($644,000) in income. The watermelons produced in Pu'er will be sold in different cities around China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
