Pu'er, noted for its tea and tracing its origins back to tea, is the famous starting point of the Ancient Tea Horse Roads in history. Five roads extend from Pu'er to five domestic and foreign destinations, attesting to the legend of man and tea: one is through Kunming to the imperial city Beijing; one is through northwestern Yunnan Province and Tibet to countries including Nepal; one is through Vietnam and Hong Kong to Europe; one is through Menglian County to Myanmar and India; one is through Mengla County to Laos and the Indochina Peninsula. These are hailed as "the fortune corridors transmitting Chinese civilization in southwestern China."
