As examined and approved by Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (QSIQ), the first national coffee products professional testing laboratory - National Coffee Detection Key Laboratory (Pu'er) was established in Pu’er on December 2.
For a long time, the lacking of standards restricted coffee trading and the development of coffee industry. Pu'er’s coffee planting area and output accounts more than half of the country, and internationally renowned Nestle, Maxwell House, Kraft Foods have all set purchase branches in Pu'er. What’s more, Pu'er coffee has been exported to more than 30 countries and regions including Europe, America, Japan, and South Korea. Therefore, it’s urgent to set up a coffee products professional testing laboratory in Pu'er.
Pu'er municipal government attached great importance to this project and raised a fund of 10 million yuan ($1.61 million) in the case of financial difficulties. In early September, National Coffee Detection Key Laboratory (Pu'er) passed the onsite examination by Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (QSIQ) and its set-up was officially approved on December 2.
The establishment of National Coffee Detection Key Laboratory (Pu'er) filled the gap of lacking in specialized coffee laboratory in China and will further develop product quality standards. It will provide a multi-functional platform integrating coffee quarantine, arbitration, research, personnel training and external exchange of technology. Therefore, it will further boost the rapid development of foreign trade and Pu'er coffee industry.
