Superior location
The Kunming-Bangkok international highway passes through Pu'er and the Yuxi-Mohan railway line is being planned, with new airports at Pu'er, Lancang and Jingdong under construction. There are 18 overland routes to Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam and Pu'er is becoming a regional center for China's cooperation with ASEAN nations.
Abundant resources
Pu'er covers a 45,000-square-kilometer area, with the city itself accounting for 23,200 sq km, the largest city by land area in Yunnan. The city's area with a subtropical and tropical climate adds up to 2.5 million hectares, which accounts for 28.6% of Yunnan. Pu'er also has 3,130,000 hectares of forested area (44,000 hectares of primeval forest), for a coverage rate of 67 percent. It is home to 40 different types of minerals, and 600 orefields. It also has 104 tons of proven gold reserves of and 2.14 billion tons of iron ore. Its natural landscape and culture are unique and diverse, and the ecosystem in Pu'er is a harmonious combination of greenery, romance, and fashion.
Beautiful environment
Pu'er is one of the best preserved, largest areas of its kind on the Tropic of Cancer and neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summer. Average annual temperatures run between 15.3 ℃and 20.2 ℃, giving it a reputation of one of the best places to live on earth.
Top industries
Pu'er's goal is to develop a green city with a strong economy and to establish a modern, comprehensive system of industrial parks in a green ecology. By following an industrialized agriculture and new industry model, it wants to develop four major industries - tea, forestry, electric power, and mining, and six special industries - coffee, tobacco, silkworms, rubber, bio-pharmaceutical, fishery and husbandry, to increase its competitive abilities.

A new round of infrastructure construction
A series of significant infrastructure construction projects have been launched, and include the construction of the middle section of the Trans-Asian Railway and three highways, the modernization of Pu'er transportation, the relocation of Pu'er airport, construction of Jingdong airport, Mojiang airport and Jiangcheng airport, and a waterway construction concerning Lancang River and Lixian River. It aims to provide a comprehensive and efficient transportation network for companies and investors.
Industrial optimization and upgrading

Tea industry
Pu'er has achieved recognition for its tea-planting area, volume and value. New research has revealed the health benefits of Pu'ertea and tt he instant tea 'Deepure' has entered the international market.
Forestry
Pu'er is rich in forest resources, and aims to develop Forest–Pulp–Paper integration and board manufacturing, forest conversion and undergrowth resources exploration. It is now one of Yunnan's important forestry industrial bases.
Hydropower industry
Pu'er is rich in hydropower resources and is an important hydropower base in Yunnan province. Three large-scale power stations and six medium-scale power stations have been built - with six more under construction. Nuozhadu Hydropower Station has been generating electricity since September 2012. Pu'er is a key base for the implementation of the strategy of power transmission from west to east and from Yunnan to other locations.
Mineral industry
Boasting an ideal geological environment, Pu'er is a cluster area for several mineralized units, and aims to make a more comprehensive use of resources. The smelting industry of gold, lead, zinc and copper has already been greatly developed.
Cultural tourism industry
Pu'er proposed the idea of 'comprehensive tourism' and implemented the strategy of 'lead by government, operated through the market, managed by companies and with the participation of the public'. Pu'er combines a green environment, leisure activities promoting health and fitness, ethnic minority culture and Pu'er tea culture, and aims to become an international tourism destination.
Coffee Industry
Pu'er has been called the 'capital of coffee in China'. The coffee industry, one of the core industries in Pu'er, is experiencing rapid development and Pu'er Coffee as a brand is gaining more attention internationally.
Tobacco industry
Pu'er was listed as a new tobacco zone in Yunnan in 2009, and the tobacco industry has developed rapidly, leading to much construction of agricultural infrastructure and an improved standard of living for local residents. The tobacco industry has thus contributed significantly to the economic and social development of Pu'er.
Biopharmaceutical industry
Pu'er invited biopharmaceutical companies such as Conba Pharmaceutical, Jinling Pharmaceutical, Jianxin Biomedical to set up branches in Pu'er which boosted the development of the biopharmaceutical industry in Pu'er.
Rubber industry
Rubber is atraditional industry in Pu'er and one of its core industries, and the city has established an Office of Rubber Development which is responsible for regulation and provides guidance to the rubber industry.
Silkworm industry
Pu'er supports silkworm breeders with its taking measures including the establishment of institutions, reinforcing leadership, integrating resources, implementing policies, improving mechanisms, and increasing funds, The city focuses on seed breeding-mulberry planting- and silkworm breeding-and fresh cocoon collection -and has established a filature industry processing development system. Pu'er has formed a business model by integrating trade, industry, and agriculture, and providing a 'one package' production-processing- and marketing service.
Fishery and animal husbandry industry
Pu'er has developed net cage fish farming and is committed to developing a productive animal husbandry. It also aims to produce green and organic fishery and husbandry products with the unique characteristics of Pu'er.
Constructing a bridgehead
The State Council said in its report Speeding up the construction of Yunnan province as an important bridgehead opens to Southwestern China that, 'the central government will support Pu'er's efforts in the development of recycling economy, and the establishment of a bio-industrial base, clean energy industrial base, forestry industrial base, as well as a recreation and vacation base,by taking advantage of its unique ecology and natural resources.’
Pu'er aims to seize all these opportunities and is working to develop a green economy and create four unique bases - a bio-industrial base, clean energy industrial base, forestry industrial base, as well as a recreation and vacation base. Pu'er is focused on developing four green industries: biological tea deep-processing, high-quality organic coffee, biological pharmacy, fishery and husbandry, high-quality tobacco, rubber products, and organic fruit and vegetable. The city is also striving to develop its cultural tourism industry, with an emphasis on ecotourism, the health preservation and anti-aging industry, tea and coffee culture experiences, creative industry and the clean energy sector, with an emphasis on hydroelectric power, as well as solar energy, wind energy, and biomass energy. It is also developing its modern forestry industry, with a focus on board manufacturing, forest conservation and undergrowth resources economy.
