Location
Pu’er is the only city in Yunnan province that shares a border with three countries: Vietnam, Burma, and Laos. The total area of Pu’er is 12.43 million square kilometers. with a border line of 486 kilometers. The Mekong (Lancang in Chinese) River which is also known as ‘the Danube of the Orient’, crosses the city and passes through five neighboring countries - Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. This so-called “golden waterway” plays an important role in the improvement of waterway ecological protection and development.
Ecological environment
Pu’er boasts a forest area of 3.13 million hectares and forest-coverage of 67%. The living wood growing stock per capita is 81.8 cubic meters, which is 9.2 times the domestic level and 2.6 times the provincial level. Pu’er is also home to 5,600 varieties of plants - including 58 rare plants under the State’s protection, and 1,486 animal species.
Pu’er also benefits from adequate rainfall and sunshine. It is also an ideal location for the development of clean energy. Pu’er boasts a green percentage of 53% which greatly exceeds the domestic average level and means that it ranks among the most livable cities in the country.
Well-established facilities
In recent years, Pu’er has been hailed as a “Charming City of China” and was also listed among the top ten Green Cities in 2011, the top ten Investment-friendly Cities and the top ten Cities of Creativity in China.
