During a recent visit by an Austrian delegation accompanied by member of the Austrian congress to coffee plantations in the city of Pu'er, Yunnan province, there were discussions on possible cooperation in the production, processing, and marketing of coffee.
In explaining the reason for the May 18–20 visit, Congressman Peter Wittmann remarked, "Considering the growing demands for coffee and Pu'er's geographical superiority, it's highly likely that we could reach consensus on furthering cooperation."
The vice-mayor of Pu'er, Yang Weidong noted, "Pu'er has a sustainable-growth, green-GDP strategy, where the focus is on improving its coffee industry by using its natural and geographical advantages and even its tea tradition. And, this is a perfect match, in view of Austria's long-established coffee culture and Pu'er's robust coffee industry growth."
Yang went on to comment, "In fact, Pu'er's high quality coffee has attracted the interest of investors from all over the world, but, for further cooperation, we need to come up with a detailed plan for investment and services."
The delegation expects to learn more about the local coffee and get a close look at coffee plantations and coffee processing plants in the area around Pu'er.
