The Royal Ancient Tea Garden is in Kunlu Mountains of Ning’er county, in the southern part of the Wuliang Mountains. Kunlu Mountains were once a royal tea garden where feudal officials would supervise the whole tea-making process, and civilians were not allowed to enter. The development of Pu’er tea culture in recent years has revealed the mysterious aura which had previously surrounded it.
Experts have confirmed the age of the ancient tea trees in the 674.8 hectares primeval forest which reaches a height of 2,271 meters, and this forest is recognized as a natural tea museum. The trees grow closely together and it is the largest ancient tea garden in Ning’er, with convenient access to local public transport.
There are more than 400 ancient tea trees next to Kunlu Mountains village, 1,900 meters above sea level, and these towering trees are still putting out new shoots every year and are tapped for tea production. The tea has a sweet smell and aftertaste.
