Kunming launches English news portal

A new English language news portal for Kunming will be officially opened on May 15 with the backing of the city's government and from China Daily, who will host and manage the site.

As the capital city of Yunnan province, Kunming is the political, cultural, economic, technological and transport center of Yunnan. It is also the fourth largest city in West China and is considered to be the gateway metropolis to ASEAN countries. The city is famous for its historical and cultural significance and for being an outstanding tourist city.

The new portal will cater to the international community by providing detailed information on the city and the latest local news updates with a fresh perspective. Kunming hopes to raise its global profile and provide a window for foreigners to gain a wider understanding of the city.

The website will showcase a wealth of information about Kunming including the latest news and developments, and local cultural and event highlights, as well as sections entitled "Visiting", "Investment" "Living" and "About". It is hoped that the website's sections will bring a local perspective to readers and depict Kunming as an ideal location with abundant resources, interesting culture and as an excellent place for investment and travel.
