Kunming Aquatic Science Park |
The Kunming Aquatic Science Park opened in the Kunming National Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone, Kunming, Yunnan province, on Dec 26, 2011, with the idea of developing the water in a healthy way for industrial development, providing high-level technology and products and many applications of water conservation, supplies, and control.
It was the first of its kind in China, with two main sections -- a core area, in Kunming's New City Hi-Tech Industrial Base, for scientific research and industrial use on 3-square–kilometers of land; and an Advanced Water Technology Applications Zone, covering the entire National Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone on about 92-sq-km of land. Its focus is on three areas of development: water and environmental protection technology, research, and equipment; the efficient, comprehensive use of water resources; and water ecology and environment protection services.
The park is trying to become a water science and environmental protection equipment manufacturing site with the focus on plateau lakes and rivers, and a water service site for Yunnan province that cooperates with government, corporations, and universities. In its short time, it has increased cooperation with water departments, scientific research institutes and industrial associations in China and abroad, in the areas of environmental protection, science and technology, and water sciences. It has also developed better ways to have exchanges and cooperation with similar institutes in Switzerland, Singapore, Israel, and elsewhere as well as relations with such Chinese organizations and enterprises as the of Yunnan province Hydrology Water Resources Bureau, Harbin Institute of Technology, China Nuclear Huaxing Construction Co, and the Cochance Co of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp's Institute No 5.
The park has had nearly 100 enterprises in the water business and the first technological exchange site for water industries in southwestern China, and has industrial cluster and is home to a national engineering research center, two provincial engineering research centers, and 13 national high-tech enterprises, with 110 of its own patents.
