UETD Heating Co Ltd, the main heating supplier for the Urumqi Economic and Technology Development Zone in Toutunhe district, switched three 100-tonne gas-fired boilers to provide central heating for local residential areas on Oct 4.
Locals heaved a sigh of relief as they welcomed central heating that will guarantee cozy indoors for four months even if the temperature outside may dip well below freezing point.
To make sure residents can keep warm in winter, the UETD Heating invested 11.5 million yuan ($1.74 million) in renovating the old heating pipe network.
"To meet the city's heating demands, our company plans to operate 13 boilers one after another," said Qiu Wanjun, the UETD's general manager.
The company is projected to cover a heating supply area of 11.25 million square meters across the city.
