Dancing in the park has become a new lifestyle for people in Economic and Technological Development Zone, in Urumqi city, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. As every night, more than one hundred residents dance in the local Tiexi Park.
Xu Rongjiang, a 76-year-old resident said that he went to dance in the park at 9:00 pm every night. "Since I retired, I learned Uygur dance from Uygur neighbors. So far I have practiced dancing for 20 years," Xu said.
According to Li Xiaoli, the Party chief of the Qianyuan community, Tiexi Park, the land covering 9.93 hectares was built in 1980. Li informed that the park is the largest of its kind in the western area of railway station. And it has become a good option for locals to hang out.
The 4th Xinjiang International Dance Festival just concluded in Urumqi on Aug 5. However, the grassroots dance still stages at every part of the city, every night.
