Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone in Toutunhe district of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region signed two landmark trade agreements with two companies on July 23.
The deals, worth an estimated 200 million yuan ($32.2 million), were struck at the 2nd Silk Road International Food Exhibition and Trade Fair.

The contracts involved Xinjiang Saire Wazi International Trade Co, which is expected to build food processing projects, such as ice cream and concentrated juice processing projects, in Toutunhe.
The company will start constructing its plant in the district next year and sell products to countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, according to Li Ge the vice-director of district’s commerce bureau. Another company involved in the signings was Xinjiang Xintai Rui Asset Management Co, which distributes fresh vegetables to outlet stores in Urumqi.

Some 33 food companies from Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone participated in the food exhibition. Food processing is one of the leading industries in the district and around 20 enterprises engage in the field. The newly-signed projects are expected to promote the export of Halal food.
