Yang Xuewen, general manager of the PetroChina, noted that the complicated geological conditions in the Junggar Basin is the latest challenge the company faces in developing the rich oil and gas resources in region.
Yang hoped that the China University of Petroleum (Beijing) could utilize its talent pool to assist the company in extracting the most from oilfield development in Karamay.
Zhang Laibin, president of the China University of Petroleum (Beijing), said, “I hope our future cooperation will strengthen the cultivation of high-level talents and push ahead the exploration and development of the Junggar Basin. We want to build the joint academy into a renowned cradle for domestic and foreign talents in geological engineering.”
A follow-up symposium was held after the signing ceremony to collect suggestions on how to build the academy and key laboratory from engineering experts, professors, and officials.
The China University of Petroleum opened its Karamay campus, the first university in Karamay, on Dec 10, 2015, to support the engineering education of the city. The university is regarded a leader in the field of petroleum related subjects.
