More than 200 drivers in Karamay have teamed up to provide free lifts to fellow citizens since Nov 27.
The event was initiated by the Karamay Green Ribbon Volunteer Service Team, who urged private car drivers to volunteer. As part of the initiative, drivers will tie green ribbons on their cars to indicate to passers-by that they are available to provide free rides.

Zhou Jianling, a manager of the volunteer service team, said: “Team members are also ambassadors to promote polite driving behaviors, such as stopping the incorrect use of high beam lights. They will explain to citizens how to use high beam lights in the correct way.”
Set up on Sept 26, 2012, the Karamay Green Ribbon Volunteer Service Team is a non-governmental organization. The team has been gradually expanding its service over the past four years and now includes free lifts during bad weather, family first-aid, planting trees and environmental protection activities.
