After a three-year construction period, the 64-kilometer long pipeline can now transport pure viscous oil from Sinopec Group’s Spring Oilfield in Turpan to Karamay Petrochemical Co. Prior to the opening of the pipeline, the crude oil had to be transported by oil tankers, causing environmental damage and financial burden.
The new pipeline is expected to transport in the region of 1.5 million tons of crude oil in its first year operation.
Ren Guibin, deputy director of the Karamay economy committee said, “It will change the mode of oil products transportation in a way of low safety risk and low road pressure, which has great influence on the development of Karamay, even the whole region.”
Li Junjun, deputy mayor of Turpan, delivered a speech during the ceremony. He said the pipeline will deepen cooperation between Turpan and Karamay.
