About 50 parents of mentally-handicapped children in Karamay attended a lecture given by the Xinjiang Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability and their Relatives on Sept 17, the Karamay Daily reported.

The lecture was given by professional special education experts and physicians, and aimed at guiding parents to give their children effective rehabilitation at home, giving them some psychological counseling, and helping them cope with stress.

Teachers at local special education institutions also took part in the training course.

"The lecture is a good opportunity for us to learn advanced special education techniques, which will boost the way we care and educate children with intellectual disability in Karamay," said Liu Shui, vice director of the Karamay Disabled Persons Federation.
