'Auto and Environment' 2018 China-Europe Automotive Industry Innovation Forum

European Chamber Tianjin Chapter together with TEDA Investment Promotion Bureau organized the first "Auto and Environment – 2018 China-Europe Automotive industry innovation forum" on May 9th 2018. Ms. Mei Zhihong, Director of TEDA Investment Promotion Bureau; Mr. Cheung Yup Fan, Chair of European Chamber Tianjin Chapter; Mr. Oliver Stitou, Board Director of European Chamber Tianjin Chapter; Mr. Lv Wang, Policy Research Engineer of China Automotive Data Center (CATARC); Mr. Ink Zheng, representative of Automotive Working Group of European Chamber and Mr. Daniel Schmitz Hübsch, expert from Volkswagen Automatic Transmisson (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. along with other distinguished experts and guests presented at the forum.

The forum was created to promote the discussion on future technology development between automakers and suppliers, to strengthen the interaction between industry specialists and to increase the communication amongst specialists and local enterprises. The forum started with key note speech from Mr. Cheung Yup Fan, Chair of European Chamber Tianjin. He specifically pointed out that technology would bring revolutionary influence on automotive industry and our member companies attach much importance to this course.

During the forum, experts and professionals delivered speeches on policy analysis as well as development strategy. Mr. Lv Wang from CATARC shared some profound estimates of the NEV development trends and impacts under the CAFC & NEV credit regulation in China. Giving insight into estimated scenarios he highlighted the need of composite force from both CAFC credit and NEV credit regulations to reach the 2020 and 2025 target of passenger car fuel consumption. Raising the threshold of technology standards and adjusting the subsidy funds is key and essence of the NEV 2018 subsidy policies. Mr. Daniel Schmidt-Hübsch, head of program management, Volkswagen Automatic Transmission, reiterated the significance to realign and transform the automotive industry as well. Mr. Ink Zheng from European Chamber Automotive Working Group (Auto WG) similarly pointed out the importance of regulating the access and quota of the NEV market.

The development and innovation of batteries in the Auto Industry, capital market supervision to ensure the healthy growth of the industry were heatedly discussed among all the questions raised in the Q&A session.
