Thirteen groups made it to the final of a rhythmic gymnastics competition held in Tianjin University of Science & Technology on Aug 20. Liaoning won the championship, while Sichuan and Jiangsu took second and third place respectively.

In Women's individual all-round competition, Shang Rong from Liaoning placed first with a total grade of 71, and Zhao Yating from Shanxi and Liu Jiahui from Hebei finished second and third respectively.

Every team took part in two events in the team competition. The Liaoning team won the golden metal with a grade of 36.70; Sichuan and Jiangsu took silver and bronze.
Bai Mei, the Lianing coach, said "Liaoning's team is the rhythmic gymnastics champion for the third year in succession -- we are continuously improving our professional level. In ten days we'll go to Italy to take part in the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, and we will try our best to do well."

Rhythmic gymnastics, often called ballet on the carpet, is the most beautiful event in competitive sports. The national games will determine the competitors for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
