Yerezhati·Mulali is a 23-year-old Kazak student from Xinjiang uygur autonomous region Manas county, studying in Tianjin Technology University of Technology and Education. At a young age he caught fever which then led to deafness of his right ear, and in the recent years his left ear suffered hearing loss.

On June of 2017, his roommate Zhang Haigang noticed that Zhati was not particularly sensitive towards sound, so Zhang took Zhati to the hospital to check his hearing. According to the result, Zhati was confronted as being completely deaf, and the only method to recover his hearing was with cochlear implants. But due to the high price of cochlear implant, Zhati's family could not afford such a large expenditure, which then led to his university, the hospital, and non-governmental organizations raising money for him. Finally, Zhati underwent cochlear implant surgery on July 20. "After my graduation next year, I will go back home to be a teacher and pass on the knowledge that I have received to the students." Zhati said.
