The World Intelligence Congress was held in Tianjin from June 29 to 30. It was co-hosted by the Tianjin municipal government, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
"To hold the WIC is an important move on Tianjin's part in that it carries forward the coordinated development strategy of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region", said Huai Jinpeng, the deputy secretary of Tianjin municipality.
Tianjin was an industrial powerhouse of China long before one hundred years ago. Yet technical innovation in the city has never stopped.
At the closing of the recent 11th Tianjin party congress Tianjin proposed that it should become a think tank for scientific and technological development.
"A new round of technological revolution is taking place under which Tianjin will go all out to secure a place for Chinese intelligent industries in the global technical expansion," Huai added.
"Hold highly the banner of intelligence technology." In the spirit of that slogan, Tianjin is planned as the advanced manufacturing R&D base within the major national strategy of coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region.
"Tianjin is the birthplace of modern industry," said Sun Wei, the deputy director of the high-tech department of the NDRC. "By holding the WIC it supports the country's industrial transformation and upgrading."
