Workers in Tianjin finally completed the initial digging and construction process for China's longest underground superposed dual tunnel -- covering 1,349 meters -- on Feb 25, which signaled a breakthrough for the construction of urban rail transit.
The tunnel crosses over the Tianjin-Qinhuangdao railway and Tianjin-Shanhaiguan railroad and at the same time goes through a business district and a flyover.
Meanwhile, this is the first tunnel project for a metro system which was conducted with strong ground motion zone and the thinnest part between the tunnel roof and the ground was only 5.16 meters.
